Election Periods

Here at AmeriQuote, we will help you determine if you are eligible for an election period and help you find the right plan that meets your needs.

An election period is a time(s) during which an eligible individual may request to enroll in or disenroll from a plan. The type of election period determines the effective date of coverage. There are several types of election periods. Here are a few:

AEP-Annual Enrollment Period

  • Oct 15 through Dec 07 (every year)
  • To enroll into a MA, MAPD, or PDP with Jan. 1st effective date.

OEP – Open Enrollment Period

  • Jan 1 through Mar 31
  • To enroll in a different MA/MAPD from a MA/MAPD or to disenroll from a MA/MAPD and enroll in a PDP only plan

SEP – Special Enrollment Period:

  • When circumstances apply
  • Depends on circumstances

OEPI – Open Enrollment Period for Institutionalized Individuals

  • Throughout the year (Continuous)
  • For individuals who move into, reside in, or move out of an institution and end 2 months after the month the individual moves out of the institution

IEP – Initial Enrollment Period (for PDP)

  • Available once in a beneficiary’s lifetime
  • Begins 3 months before 65th birthday, the month of 65th birthday, and ends 3 months after 65th birthday
  • To enroll in MA/MAPD/PDP

ICEP – Initial Coverage Election Period

  • Available once in a beneficiary’s lifetime
  • Begins 3 months before 65th birthday, the month of 65th birthday, and ends 3 months after 65th birthday
  • To enroll in MA/MAPD/PDP
